Well made

Looks nice and works well. Nice to carry round neck when in wilderness.

Lightweight and small I like it

The only thing that was a little negative was it was a little smaller than I thought but overall, I’d say it’s 100% home run. It even comes with a chain and a really nice plastic box that can be used to something else.

Quality

I use this over the compass on my phone. I need accurate directions for a part of my job. This thing is well built and works great.

The best!

I put mine on my keychain. It is sturdy and looks great. They would make wonderful gifts. Small and effective.

Pricy, but appears very well made

I bought this compass to hang on my pocket knife with a plastic quick disconnect link and some paracord. I was impressed with its weight and apparent quality of construction. Despite what some are writing about the included chain being ferrous mine was not. Even wadded into a ball and placed next to the compass the chain did not affect the operation so it's definitely not made of ferrous metal. Regarding what some are saying that the pointer jumps around a lot. The compass (any compass) needs to rest on a solid, flat surface to read correctly. The trick is to slightly tilt the compass to bind up the needle a bit then lay it flat and it will point north in a nanosecond. It's all in the the operation. This seems like a pretty good unit for giving you rough headings. I wouldn't use it to navigate with but just for getting your general bearings it seems to be pretty good.

Love the small size

I needed a compass for my car, (crazy the manufacturer didn't bother to put one in there! It has everything else!) but all the dashboard models online were so large! I just wanted a small, inconspicuous compass that I can look at when I'm in a new area and don't know my way around. Works great! It's easy to read too! I also figure it's versatile in that when I'm out hiking, I can also take it with me. Comes on an easy-to-wear chain.

Eye candy with miserable function

I first ordered two of these. They quickly acquired a direction only approximating North. Worse is the fact that the two differ in direction (as near as I can tell on a small button compass) by about 15 degrees! Well, a button sized compass understandably already limits its usefulness to general backup orienteering, but these can't even find North! I thought to give MecArmy a second chance and ordered two more of these hoping that I might have received unusually bad outlier units missed as faulty during assembly (bad QA/QC). Wrong. The next two display the aggravating characteristic of taking forever (many, many seconds - and never if holding by hand due to reasonable hand instability) to stop oscillating back and forth before finally settling into, again, bad approximations of North. The units look really nice. I bought Titanium for looks and durability (its non-magnetic and strong). I bought these to make "Ranger/Pace Bead" assemblies with attached titanium compass and titanium whistle for Christmas Gifts. I can't give these out because they are not even close to useful. Unless MecArmy contacts me after reading this and replaces these four units with functional ones, I must warn all that these are expensive eye candy that no one should entertain trusting in an emergency situation as a backup compass. I have to keep one of the four as I already incorporated it into one of my Christmas Gifts and is the least bad (withing -2 degrees of magnetic North). The other three I am returning since I'm not getting any support from seller via Amazon. I submitted pictures and movies showing the issues, but they got stripped from this review somehow.

Nice item - lost brass backing

Overall a very nice and portable little brass compass. Pretty sensitive to magnets (if it's near your phone, it may affect it determining true north!) but easy to read.Only problem is that the screw-on back easily loosens up through everyday use, to the point of falling off. Every time I noticed the screw back getting loose I would tighten it, but would still somehow get loose - recently found that it must've loosened up and fell off, with no ability to replace it. Currently not sure if it's worth getting a replacement or trying to find a solution to try and keep this one together - unsure what's the most economical given I've gotten just 6 months of use out of it. It may make sense to put this in some sort of case or use tape to make sure the back doesn't get lost (which means the actual compass piece can fall out).
