These were super fun and easy. The kids love to crosstich and they made these for presents to give to friends. Good quality too.

I've been looking for some fun crafts to teach my daughter and her cousins (ages 5-7) how to sew. They love watching me embroider, sew, and mend. They have been begging me to teach them. These wooden ornaments come with floss, ribbon, and small, plastic needles. I love the needles that it comes with. They are the size of actual crewel/embroidery needles but plastic (NOT a tapestry needle size). The smaller needle actually makes it easier for them to sew/stitch versus struggling with a bigger tapestry size needle. While plastic, these needles do have a sharper point than a typical, blunt tapestry needle, so I would only recommend them for kids with fairly good fine motor skills and focus. Overall, exactly what I was looking for!

Thought this would be a fun introduction to cross stitch for my 7 year old. It is that, but two annoyances: 1) the number of holes doesn’t allow for proper cross-stitching— There are not an even number! And 2) expect to have to thread the needle multiple times for your child. Not a design flaw, just something to be aware of!

My 9yo son enjoyed painting these and then cross stitching them as Christmas gifts. However since the holes are much farther from each other than traditional cross stitch, you either have to use many (MANY) inches of thread at once or resign yourself to stopping and starting new pieces several times per star. They still turned out cute on the front. Note that the variety of thread included is all bright colors. We used thread we already had for some of our stars.

I purchased this to start teaching my eight year old son basic stitches. He likes it very much. Definitely good for a beginner cross stitch. I placed colored dots on the wood to help him determine which colors to make his patterns. You can choose your own patterns when using this kit. The wood, while I have not measured it, is of decent thickness. We even stained some of the wood pieces before he cross stitched on them. It is not packaged as a giftable item, however, I think if you put it in a small box it would be fine.

My daughter has been using this but our kit didn’t come with a needle. I don’t like giving her a sharp metal one but the plastic ones I’ve found are too big. What kind of needle should I be using?

The needles were flimsy and hard the thread.Grandma
