Managed to make it work on a PC using Lirc/WinLirc

I wanted to be able to use the XR11 on a computer so I hacked up a cable for the XR8 that provides the needed 5V from a USB port and then pass the signal to the line in on my sound card. I then used Lirc or WinLirc to detect the IR using the sound card. It's working perfect. I have the XR8 connected to a server that is centrally located in a closet and the XR11 works from all corners of the house. You can't beat $15 for the XR11/XR8 combo. If anyone is interested. Here is the pinout for the XR8: Tip = 5v, Center = IR data, Base = Ground.

not what its advertised

works sometimes, but not completely. cannot turn off TV with it. Also spent too much time resetting it. was a waste of time and money.

Excellent range

Works great! I'm remoting a cable box from a 2nd floor bedroom to a room in the basement. No problems going through 2 floors and several walls. Tried it with both an XR5 and an XR11 remote - both work fine. Pairing couldn't be simpler.

Not capable of controlling TV volume

I purchased this with the expectation of not only being able to control channels, but also the volume. However, as I discovered after my purchase, Comcast's cable boxes do not have the capability to control the volume of your TV. Therefore, this is of little use to me because of that. It does however give you out of sight control over channeling and other functions using your remote, but without the out of sight volume control it just isn't worth my money.

Good solution to multiple TV issues. Worked very well for me despite the poor instructions.

I purchased three of these for use at my friends' restaurant. They have 3 televisions in the bar area of their restaurant and the TVs are wall-mounted somewhat close together. This RF receiver eliminates the problem of changing the channel on multiple TVs when you're only trying to change the channel on one. In essence, it changes the way the set-top-box (cable receiver box) receives the signal from the remote. Normally, you would need to point the remote at the cable box and the remote sends the signal to cable box via IR (infrared light) signals. By installing this on the back of your cable box, it allows the remote to send the signal via RF (radio frequency) so "line-of-sight" is no longer necessary as you're no longer sending the signal via invisible (infrared) light.A couple of things to remember: It only works with the XR5 and XR11 remotes as they have the capability of sending RF signals unlike other remotes. Number two is that your cable box must have a 3.5mm jack on the back that is usually marked "IR remote" or "IR IN" or something of that nature for this device to plug into.Although this device has performed flawless for over a week, I've decided to leave off one star for the poor documentation that accompanies it. I was luckily able to decipher the pairing instructions and will try to clear up some confusion..Step One: Plug this device into the back of your cable box. The status light should turn on, then off.Step Two: Press the button marked "PAIR" on this device.Step Three: Within a few seconds, press and hold the "SETUP" button on your XR5 or XR11 Remote. (Keep a close eye on the LED Status Light near the top of the XR5 or XR11 Remote.)Step Four: When the LED Status Light on the XR5 or XR11 Remote turns from RED to GREEN, let go of the "SETUP" button on the remote, then immediately press the button marked "XFINITY" on the remote. The LED Status Light on the remote should turn off, then flash green twice to confirm successful programming.Just to test it, I unplugged the cable box from the power outlet (to simulate a power failure) and also removed the batteries from the remote and after plugging it back in and reinstalling the batteries, the remote was still successfully paired. It's a handy little devices that (so far) seems to be working well. I hope my instructions helped clear up a little confusion.

Cheap Piece of Crap

Once you get it paired with your remote it works well, for a month or two, then you need to re-pair it which is usually an excruciating process. I stopped working again last night and after struggling with it for an hour or so this morning, I've given up. If Comcast is going to give you a cable box, shouldn't they also give you a remote that works with that box? I shouldn't have to buy a dongle on Amazon to make my Comcast remote work with my Comcast cable box.

Worked great!

Why they don't include one of these with every cable box that doesn't have it built in is beyond me. Works great and super simple to set up. Easily provided remote control from XR5 Xfinity remote through a densely cabled wall into a metal rack on the other side.

It works as advertised

I have a couple TVs connected to the same cable box through a HDMI splitter and I wanted to be able to control the box from out side. This made it possible. Works like a charm and easy to set up.
