Great reception, sound & value
I have really enjoyed the PRUNUS J-05 radio so far. I purchased it several months ago as I wanted a sensitive radio for the bathroom that could pick up a low power (100 watt) FM station across town that my other radios could not seem to pull in easily. These other radios required lot of fussing around to position them in exactly the right spot, which usually wasn't a practical place for a radio to be. The PRUNUS J-05 does an awesome job, and effortlessly pulls in the weakeat stations really well. It may require a full extension of the antenna for weak or distant FM stations. But the radio is able to be placed in a convenient spot and pulls in the weak/distant station I wanted to listen to, crystal clear. One thing that does take a little getting used to with the PRUNUS J-05 is the fact that you get some 'ghost signals' (repetitive signals) on either side of the actual signal that you want to listen to. These signals are usually just as listenable. As others have pointed out, it is similar to an older feature called "Automatic Frequency Control" or AFC that automatically switches over to the stronger signal if you tuned into a less listenable signal. This is rectified by making sure to tune into the actual source signal as opposed to these other ghosts signals. But it is a very small price to pay for such a sensitive radio at such a decent price point. As with other modern portable radios that are not at a premium price point, the only casualty (if there is one) might be the quality of the AM sound that you get. The signals come in strong and again this radio is more sensitive than any other I own (or equal to my smaller Sangean). But most radios I purchased in the last 5 to 10 years seem to have given up on providing any kind of treble resolution above 3 or 4k on the AM band. Older radios provided far greater treble resolution with AM (providing almost an additional octave of treble resolution). This is probably a holdover from the days when AM radio was still very viable for music (Top 40). But I guess I am showing my age here. A premium radio like the Crosley that I own sounds wonderful on FM and very respectable on AM, but the AM reception is basically nonexistent except for maybe a 50,000 watt Clear Channel station (and my Crosley has significant problems with AM ghost signals from way up the AM band that show up farther down the band). As others have noted, the PRUNUS J-05 is also very sensitive on the weather band. I pick up a couple of signals really well. Other radios I own with the weather band in the house can barely pick up one.As far is overall sound quality, the radio has a very decent sound quality, especially for FM talk radio. I find it has a decent amount of top end brilliance (on FM) that makes voices really stand out. Again, on AM radio there is not really high end to speak of. But the PRUNUS J-05 has a full sound that will project and definitely gets the job done. it has a pretty robust volume level, where it will project farther than any other radio I have in the house, save for my home stereo. Out of the box it may sound more brilliant than full, but give it time. It will eventually break in and the bottom end will get richer sounding, complimenting the top end.I highly recommend the PRUNUS J-05 and I would buy it again.

Love this little radio!
We live in the country in north central Mo so sometimes reception except local stations is sketchy. So far this radio is coming in well. It's small and easy to take with us fishing.

One Weird Radio Due to BAD Execution
This is the weirdest radio I have ever owned and I think it's because Prunus failed miserably in its execution of building an "analog-style radio" that uses a DSP chip. On both AM and FM, if you have a high-power station, it will appear at as many as 5 different points on the dial, congregated around its broadcast frequency. Any small, low-powered stations are simply swept away in the wide coverage that this Prunus J-05 radio gives the high-power station. So, forget about selectivity. If you do find that small station, it will be between two of the multiple spots on the dial the high-power station occupies. This is the J-05's downfall without question.DXing under this onus is impossible if your radio dial is populated by close and high-power stations. This is really too bad because this radio is sensitive. When you're not contending with high wattage blowtorches, this radio can reel 'em in. What a shame that sensitivity gets wasted by the sheer absence of selectivity. This radio could have been so much better. The speaker is loud on high-power stations. But there's not a trace of bass. You'd think that there would be at least a hint out of a loud 3.5 inch speaker. It does use 3 D-cells AND has an AC power cord so you don't waste the batteries unnecessarily. But, when you plug it in, the volume decreases, especially on weak stations. Weird. You can barely see the dial indicator, it is buried so deep in the radio. And it's not accurate, merely a bad approximation. The Weather Band is a plus, and with D-cell operation, the J-05 becomes a simple emergency radio. At its present price point, slightly under 30 bucks, there are better radios out there that are better at being a real radio. The Prunus J-05 is too compromised when there are other better radios out there. Many less expensive. And many whose dial gives only one spot on the dial to each radio station.I wanted to like this radio, and I still may, but it will only be because I have gotten used to it's weird way of tuning, and am able to get it to latch it onto lower power stations.Update: I couldn't put up with this radio's multiple inadequacies and finally sent it back to Amazon. Good riddance! Ordered and received a Panasonic RF-2400D for a couple of bucks less and have been back to enjoying my radio rather than strategizing around the Prunus J-05's many missteps. Sayonara! Ha-ha!

NOAA station came in loud and clear!
Tropical Storm Hone arrived bringing high wind gusts and steady rain. Our power was out for just over 15 hours, longer than we've ever experienced. During these 15 hours, we had zero phone service, both landline and cell phone. We thought we might be without power for another night. That taught us that we were not as prepared as we need to be. Our old emergency radio was a solar hand crank version that didn't work and the outside of the device was sticky and deteriorating. Well, to make a long story a little shorter, we found this little radio on Amazon and liked it because it could be plugged in as long as we have power and then will run on 3 D batteries. It has 3 radio bands: AM, FM and WB. This radio arrived in just a couple of days, and best of all, the NOAA station came in loud and clear.
