I read this book although it's for my granddaughter for when she can read. I think it was well written. It is very interesting about what is not talked about the after effects of the atomic bomb. The pictures throughout the book of Sadako made it so you can relate to the story. I also bought the book for my God child who can read and plan to give it to her for Christmas.

Every person should read this book.

This book serves as an excellent trade book for Social Studies classrooms. It is well researched and serves as an important view of the effects of the atomic bomb reagrdless of the reader's personal beliefs of the bomb. Easily read in a week of 45 minute classes.

Lovely, lovely book

I loved everything about this book - most notably the simple, clear language and the warm, enduring message. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to become more familiar with the horrific results of the first atomic bomb explosion in a populated area. I chose this rating because the book taught me so much I didn’t know, and because I hope it made me a better, more aware human being.

A must have book. Great!!!!!!!

This book will put a fist around your heart and squeeze it to death. It will put tears in your eyes from the first page to the last. It tells you a story that needs to be told. We all need to hear this story. We all need to learn from the past and we need to take steps to not repeat what we did. As I have read this book I get angry and very emotional and have tears in my eyes. This book had ripped out my heart.

My grandson read this book in school & said it was a very good book & I would really like it but I would cry. We read it together & he was right. Taka tells the story of a brave young girl, Sadako, the atom bomb, her family & friends & The Children's Peace Statue. This is a well written account of what happened after the bomb & we will all remember this story. Thank you for sharing this with us Taka.

Tiny

These books are fine for kids but for a public library they get lost in the shelves, because it is soooo small. It was my mistake ever buying a paperback to start with.

Timeless, wonderful, sad---but still resonating hope.

I was read this book as a child and have now read it to my own 11 year old daughter. The story is sad, but it is timeless and wonderful for any parent who wants their children to see the lasting, harmful effects of war--especially on children.I can't recommend this to readers under 10 simply because of the weightyness of the material, but strongly recommend it to 11+.
