It can even go over a vintage piece to maintain the distressed or aged patina. Commonly referred to as a water-based polyacrylic sealer, the acrylic resin and self-curing urethane blend builds quickly, making it an ideal choice for beginners and professionals alike. It's self-leveling to help you achieve a flat matte finish without brush marks, while the low VOC and low odor formula means you won't have to open every window, work outside or wear a ventilated mask to complete your project. The Guard Dog Topcoat Paint Protector can be applied once, while furniture paint wax products require regular application every few months to maintain their finish. Black Dog Salvage Topcoat Painting Techniques: • Treat your Guard Dog right: stir only. No shaking • Apply it to your project with a good quality brush (bristle or foam - your choice) or a paint sprayer • If spraying, be sure to follow the manufacturer's setting and thinning recommendations • Lightly sand between coats • If painting on pieces where chalk paint waxes have been used, make sure to remove any remaining wax One quart covers approximately 150 square feet and dries to the touch in approximately 1 hour.
