Q: Will this keep mold from growing in the unit?

I have been using this with paper filters for last 2 years and I don't see any mold. I do cleaned unit before and after season which is rssential to not have mold. if you put it away still wet after season it will get mold

Q: Is this safe for a guitar room evaporative humidifier?

This is a Chloride based bacteriostat and you use such a small amount per gallon that I do not see any problem using it in an evaporative humidifier for your guitar room. We have used this product for several years in our home and have not had any problems with odor, residue on furniture surfaces or pet reactions to the proper use of this product. We evaporate 5-7 gallons of water a day through our system and have never had an issue with Essick Air Bacteriostatic Treatment.

Essick Air Humidifier bacteriostatic is made up mostly of chlorine products. As water evaporates through the filters, small amounts of chemical may end up as deposits on the filter but the majority of the deposits are calcium from the water. The chlorine evaporates with the water, just like chlorine does in a swimming pool. I have never had any skin issues handling the old filters when replacing them. I do not wear gloves when changing the filters but if you have concerns, by all means, wear protective gloves when replacing your filters.
