Success for a notorious "Pinterest fail"-er!
I just finished my first project from this book. It turned out so well! I was really anticipating one of those notorious "Pinterest fails" because that's usually how my projects turn out - especially any that involve sewing. I am an experienced knitter, but a somewhat mediocre sewer. Because of that, I found the knitting instructions extremely clear (it's all pretty much beginner-level knitting, with very specific instructions), but the sewing instructions slightly less so. I suspect this is more related to my skill set, than it is to the way the book is actually written, though. I wasn't super-clear from the written directions about placement of parts when sewing them together, but there are plenty of very clear pictures that I could use as a guide. By the way, the pictures are so cute, I could just enjoy the book by looking at the pictures over and over! I am so looking forward to starting my next project tonight. I am trying to come up with a logical excuses to knit every animal! This book is totally worth it! :-)10/19/17 Update: Just finished my second project the other day. It was just as successful as the first one! I have to keep looking at them over and over because they are so cute! I never anticipated having this kind of success β it's because the instructions are so cleverly put together. I totally recommend this book!

Great book, but not necessarily for a beginner
It seems like everyone I know is having babies, so I bought this book to make them stuffed animals! Overall its a fantastic book with very cute and unique animals that you can't necessarily find in other places. The knitting part of each animal is pretty easy, but the assembly part is a little crazy and requires a bit of experience which is why I don't think this book is great for beginning knitters. I've made 3 animals from it and they all had around 15 pieces to put together, but the seaming of those pieces really does give each animal its shape so unfortunately its kind of important. The instructions for assembly are good, a lot better than I've seen with other patterns, and there are numerous pictures of each animal throughout the book to help you with placement of arms, legs, tails, etc. And now I'm pretty awesome at seaming! The only criticisms I have are the use of actual knitting terminology (the thumb method of casting on is a long tail cast on, or Inc is knitting front and back through the same stitch (kfb), so why don't we just call it that book?) and the lack of adequate instructions or a diagram for making the lion's mane (seriously, there is a knit and purl diagram, but no diagram for this elusive kind of loop stitch?).The animals are also built in such a way that you could take pieces from different patterns to make different animals, something I haven't done yet, but want to try to make a camel. Anyway, definitely worth adding to your knitting library if you want to make adorable stuffed animals!

Best book ever for knitted animals
I purchased this book to make animals for our new grandson to be's jungle themed nursery! WOW! they are wonderful. the animals are so realistic and adorable and very easy to whip up. the tiger came out amazing with the stripes and the elephant was just too cute for words. i also made the monkey...(holding the banana) and the lion. i've been knitting for more than 40 years and i disagree with the other reviewer who also is a long time knitter. i felt the instructions are very clear and very easy to follow. i did find two errors...perhaps a novice knitter might not realize them...but they were easily corrected by common sense and i'm sure a beginner knitter wouldn't have any problem with them.i love the fact that the animal faces are in such detail. by this i mean the author has you knit the mouth and snout separately in many of the animals. this way those areas get stuffed separately and look so real. also...the nose is knit separately as well and sewn on. it is a little extra work but well worth it.i also have itty bitty toys which i love as well, but there is something about these wild animals that were much more satisfying and much more realistic. i am so happy that i bought the book and can't wait to make the rest of the menagerie. i also hope that the author writes another book...perhaps barnyard animals.these animals make amazing gifts. i gave the four animals i made to the mommy to be at the shower and she loved them...and everyone at the shower thought they were professionally done. i credit this to the patterns. wonderful job!!!

Amazing !! Highly recommend it :)
I am a medium to advanced knitter and I have to say this Book is so amazing. I am always a bid afraid of complicated patterns, because I am still learning how to read them in English. This Book is so easy to read and the step by step instruction are easy to follow. I already made the koala which came out adorable and the monkey so cute.It is such a blast to make these beatteful handknitted toys and they really become a treasure for people to pass them on. I use the Cascade DK super wash yarn that knitted up really nice and for kids it's very good to have a high quality washable yarn. The good thing is it needs only a couple scanes of yarn so it's worth getting good quality . I also would recommend spending a few extra dollars and using high quality stuffing because it makes a huge difference how soft and cuddly the toy will be. To comment on the previous reviews regarding to much seaming. There are a lot of pieces to sow but I am good at seaming so it did not bother me. And on some I actually just kept knitting so I had less pieces to sow on it's an option if you have a bid experience in knitting.Enjoy!

Same book, different cover
Lovely easy to follow patterns. BUT don't be fooled into thinking this is a different wild animal knitting book from Sarah Keen's other wild animal book with the monkey on the cover. Its the same but with a different cover, updated for the American market. A mistake i sadly made....
