I have been searching for a book of poetry in both Spanish and English for middle school students. This is the first that features truly great poetry -- mysterious, beautiful, evocative -- in both Spanish and English. And the translations are as artful and artless as the originals.I'll use so many of the poems here to inspire and to emulate the young readers and writers in my classroom. Alberto Forcada's short poem, "Sailor", could start a thousand other great poems by my students:"Mother,Do you know?/My calling to the sea came/When you sang me to sleep."I look forward to sharing this excellent (and beautifully illustrated) book with my students and colleagues.

I made copies of some of the poems to put on the overhead for my classroom of middle school students. Some of my Spanish speakers "volunteered" (at my urging) to read aloud, and all the kids loved it! The art selections are appropriate and the readability level is good for this age (even in the Spanish) A great addition to any teacher's bookshelf.

I found this book a valuable resource for getting young children interested in poetry. I have used this book for three years now and the response from my 2nd and 3rd graders has been fantastic. Many of the poems in this book, the kiddos can associate with making for interesting reading. This is a must buy for anyone trying to introduce poetry in the classroom.

If you are looking for additional content to teach in your classroom this book is great as its poems cover a large variety of topics which can be related to many units.
