It should work for it. The strap is elastic, but it can be used without the strap. Just sit your projector on the stand. The stand is adjustable with height.

Q: Wil it fot behind the couch if the couch is against the wall? What is the cleatance measurement wise for the legs?

If the couch is against the wall then no you need to move the sofa a little bit so that the tripod can fit.
