Frisk 40023102 Rice Paper, off white, cream, 69 x 10cm

An excellent product, great quality, just what I was hoping for.

love the paper. it is ideal for monoprinting! nice and thin but fairly strong.

I bought the paper to experiment with watercolour and mixed media, but was initially disappointed by how easily it got soaked through (you need to put another paper behind to catch the 'leak'). I haven't got much experience in rice paper. I was not happy with the sizing (or lack of) as not just the watercolour soaked through, most of my pens bled on it (eg. Platinum Carbon Ink). Fine liner worked fine though (pun!)At first I thought the paper might be a fake since I am unfamiliar with rice paper. But it seems genuine as it is indeed quite strong even when wet, doesn't tear easily when wet as ordinary paper do, and doesn't damage when rubbed with wet brush as ordinary paper do.The paper is quite beautiful. It is smoother on one side than the other. After googling, I find it is customary to paint on the smoother side. Though the other side looks good too. My pen seems to bleed equally on both sides. Pity!I have different rice paper given by someone, this other paper seems much better sized and my pen doesn't bleed on it and watercolour less likely to soak through. Though this other paper looks cheaper and has visible 'lines' on it like kraft paper. The paper in this review does not have these 'lines' and the grains on the paper look even, like hand made paper.After doing some research, I found out that some rice paper are deliberately unsized (or semi sized) as raw paper is considered great for the spontaneous style of painting / calligraphy if used with mastery of moisture control. So I just need more practise on my moisture control. And no fountain pen on rice paper! Tsk tsk.See my photos on the bleeding and how the grains look on the back and the front of the paper. Delivery and packaging are great. Bought for a calligraphy art piece to be framed and was excellent for that purpose. Only criticism is that the quality is not of the same standard that you would get in China, though I think it's near impossible to get in the UK.
