Q: Is this cork? I don't like the homasote b/c pins go thru + u have to leave shrink wrap on or the "grid" will fall off b/c it's just a pc of paper...

No - this board is like a slightly softer foam material like the kind that flip-flops are made of, or a bit softer than the Kumihimo discs.I have never had a pin go through it, but I suppose that if you pushed really hard, you could get it to go through. The material sort of closes around the pin - I guess that's why they say that it is "self-healing". The pin hole does close up once the pin is removed.You don't have to leave the shrink wrap on.

Q: I am a beginner at Macrame. I want to make plant hangers. Would this board help me learning knots or is it better for small projects?

This board is better for small projects but it will help you a lot to learn knots. In my experience once you get to know how to do plant hangers, you wont limit yourself to that and you will want to do other projects: wall hangins, bracelets,necklaces and there is no limit for your creativity. Doing smaller projects with this board will make your live a lot easier because you will be able to learn knots and finish projetcs faster.

Q: I can't decide between 14x10 inches or the smaller 7.5x10.5 inches. Is the smaller one big enough for making macrame hemp bracelets? Anybody got both?

I bought the small one because, I wasn't all that into making macrame jewelry at the time, I had a customer that requested 6 bracelets for her daughters dance team. Since then 7 years ago I have made so many that I finally decided to get the larger one to make it easier to make different projects. I wish now I would have gotten the larger one to start with!!! So go for the big one now!! Its worth it and they last forever!!
