What size squares for a battle grid should I get for these figures?
Would these be a good way to practice miniature painting? Like is the material decent for that?
please tell me, are these any good for playing DnD??
Do they actually come with a knight holding a shield?

These will do quite nicely!

I was wondering whether this would come with a handful of poorly made, low quality globs of plastic, because official fantasy RPG figures are insanely expensive. In fact, even a plastic tube of poorly-made farm animals (from a 'craft' store -- you know which ones I'm talking about) tends to be exorbitant. These figures are surprisingly detailed (and really, if you want more detail than this you would probably enjoy crafting your own).Material - these are made from the same plastic that old army-men are made from. This means that you get figures with bent legs or weapons and those little tabs of excess plastic from the mold. Just bend them straight and cut off excess plastic with an exacto.Detail and Quality - These are molded plastic, so there is a limit to the detail and quality that you can get. However, they are surprisingly detailed. Although they show the typical lines and indications of the molding process, they do not have the disproportionate or lopsided body parts that you often get with molded plastic. They seem to be easily paintable. All figures have a sturdy base.Variety - It looks like there are approximately 8 of each figure (4 light grey, 4 dark grey), and 10 different figures: Skeleton, Unicorn, Fairy, Dwarf, Dragon, Wizard, Centaur, 2-Headed Ogre, Orc, ElfI do recommend these if you want reasonably detailed characters for fantasy play without the cost or effort of anything hand-crafted. Also, they're not a complete rip-off, like what you find elsewhere. They may not be collectors' items, but these will do quite nicely!

These are toys not 28mm minis

I've used these beside my dnd minis and other pawnlike objects for a few months and yeah they're not 28mm "heroic scale". These are not minis, These are kids toys made of cheap durable plastic for five year olds to yeet across the playground with their mud pie soaked fingers. However if you aren't too particular about exact sizing these can be useful to start out getting more than a foamcore token on your game table. If you want to paint these toys, you should wash them with soap beforehand then make sure you have a good coat of primer. I had to go back and reprime my wizard after the paint started peeling off (which I accidentally overprimed with the spraycan 2nd go, still learning).Scale notes:The dragon, unicorn, minotaur, snakeman, centaur, and dwarf are close enough to heroic scale they don't look too out of place. The orcs aren't out of place since orcs are bigger than humans, but don't mix and match well with heroic scale orcs. The Archers wizards and knights are closer to giantkin than heroic scale human. The fairy is bigger than human minis. The ettin is the odd one out because to me they look too small (not certain since I don't have a scale ettin since I don't intend on introducing any in my game soon, and even if I do, this set has six).

Painting Not Recommended For These Miniatures

Like other reviewers have stated, these miniatures cannot be painted as some type of chemical reaction takes place resulting in the primer not curing properly and remaining "sticky" indefinitely. Otherwise, these miniatures are a pretty good deal. They have a fair amount of detail and you can't beat getting 90 of these for roughly $20. I like them for the price aside from the fact that due to the type of plastic they are made of, they cannot be painted.*Update: I have changed my initial rating from 3/5 to 4/5 because I WAS able to paint them, despite my initial misgivings. The primer remained tacky/sticky though and the primer got all over my hands while painting with acrylic. After I let the acrylic dry for a few minutes, they didn't feel tacky anymore, but they were still quite bendable/flexible. I bought these figures for my children because I paint miniatures and thought that these would be a decent, cheap set that I could give to my kids as they begin to learn to paint miniatures. My kids (5 & 8) really enjoyed the process of painting them and were happy with the results. I still have not sealed these two figures yet, so I don't know if that will change the end results.

Good starter set for young kids, quality is a bit lacking

We got these figurines for our 10 year olds birthday. This is an okay set for a child of this age starting DnD. The correct quantity came. Some of the figs are pretty distorted which is why I took some stars off. At least 4 won't sit flat on the board because the bases are too bowed for them to. Our kids decided that they will just write their campaigns around these issues. These will be good for them to practice painting on as well before getting a better set. I'd say they are okay for the price. The quality & look is equivalent to those cheap plastic army men toys for reference.

Great stand in miniatures for adventure games.

These fantasy figures are what we call box scale. In other words they have no scale except they fit in the box. (See photos) The dragon is the same size as the centaur and the fairy the same as the dwarf. I’m not going to bother to paint mine so I have no idea how that would go. These things are great for what I bought them for - to fill in for painted 25/28 mm miniatures. There are two colors, dark gray & light gray, so you could stage a war between them and I think as a kid I would have liked these. There are 90 of these bad boys. I rated five stars because they are exactly as described. I think they should have added photos with a ruler to show how big they are, but only Grognards could possibly care. I may paint one just to see if I can get the paint to stick.

Great set. Cheap and you get so much.

I bought these because all other miniatures I found were so expensive. These are not perfect, but for the price they are amazing. You get so many of them and they are pretty darn good quality. A couple of them had a couple of missing pieces, and as some people have said a couple of the bases were bent and hard to get back into shape because it is pretty soft. But you get 98 of these things! You can't find a better value. The VAST majority had no issues at all. I still probably had 94 that were perfect to use.Two FYI'sI am also painting with acrylic paints and that is also sticking just fineI haven't counted but I think the black vs white ones you get is about 50/50
